So you want to know how to build you very own website. How is it done?
That's not really the easiest question to answer. But I can sure point in the right direction.
First of all you need to decide what you want your website to be about.
Website Ideas or Topics..
- Photography is great for a "photoblog" which displays your photos or artwork in a creative way
- A Blog is great for written content which gives information on a particular topic/subject/idea
- - Check out The Power of Blogging
- Personal websites are not very common anymore, a simple "about me" section is more appropriate by today's standards. There are a million different social networking sites that can serve you better if your heart is set on this.
- Business Pages are great advertising tools and will help generate new customers
If you have never made a website before start with a "Free Site". Domain names are great. But why pay money for something you may not even end up liking or use?
Try these websites to get your very own free website started... they require little to no knowledge to start!
Free hosting sites:
Blogger
Wordpress
Weebly
DevHub
Also try out:
Jux
Blog
Tumblr
It doesn't matter where you choose to get your website, just take a look around before you choose the best fit for your needs.

Naming Your New Website
Once you have made your selection pick a user name/blog url that is similar to the topic or subject of your site. This will make it easier for search engines to correctly define and list your website which will in turn increase the number of people who will visit your website.
For example on Blogger your user name and blog name are seperate. My user name is Hottjam, but I named this blog Internet Junkie because my subject is the internet.
Customize Your Website Layout
Go ahead and play around once you are registered. Check out different layouts, customize your website, whatever. When you're ready put up your content.... you photos, stories, tips, etc. You want to have a good amount of unique, original content that engages those who visit your site.
Add Engagement For Your Visitors
Use polls, quizzes, videos, pictures, games, social networking.. whatever to add variety throughout your website.
You don't just want to throw a bunch of stuff up - take your time and put some thought behind it.
Within a few weeks if you keep up with it you should start to see visitors flow into your website. Visit other websites and comment on what you life. Commenting is another free and easy way to advertise.
Now What?
Once you have had your website up for a while you should consider a domain name. This is paid hosting and your URL would read internetjunkie.com versus internetjunkie.blogspot.com. However, there is nothing wrong with keeping your site on a free hosting site!
